London:
Experts have called for India and the UK to work together to promote ancient
medical science Ayurveda which is “free of any side-effects”.
“The western
world is fighting with its back to the wall. Due to dangerous side-effects of
chemicals, they have no option but to turn to Ayurveda… India and
the UK must work together on promoting Ayurveda,” said Shahnaz Husain, pioneer and leader of
Ayurvedic beauty movement in India.
She was speaking
as the ‘Special Guest’ at a conference on ‘Ayurveda- a Power for Health &
Beauty’organised by the High Commission of India in the UK at India House, London,
recently.
“International cosmetic empires (are)pumping billions of
dollars into a hysterically mad cosmetic industry, selling youth & dreams
in bottled jars……. The human race is using chemicals for beauty, which
is a very dangerous trend. That is why I have dedicated my life to Ayurveda,
replacing chemicals with herbs and plant power,” she said.
Representatives of the Kerala-based Kairali Ayurvedic Group and Dr
Tanuja Nesari of the All India Institute of Ayurveda, Delhi, also addressed the
conference, focusing on efforts of Indian government to popularise Ayurveda
across the globe.
Indian High
Commissioner Ruchi Ghanashyam observed many countries already
started adopting Ayurveda for health and beauty care needs. “The Government of
India is collaborating with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to promote our
traditional system of healing across the globe,” she said.
